Brainstorming for Topic Sentences

Supporting sentences are very important parts of any paragraph, but in order to have great supporting sentences we need to start with a good topic sentence. 

For homework brainstorm ideas that go with the general ideas and write a topic sentence to go with it.  (Supporting Sentences 01 / Activity 5)

Effective paragraphs: Main Ideas & Topic Sentences

In order to write an effective paragraph it is important to be able to recognize and write good topic sentences. 

For homework - do exercise 1 & 2 from the Worksheet I shared with you. 

Classification Paragraph BRAINSTORMING

Homework for this weekend is to decide on a topic for your classification paragraph and brainstorm ideas that you THINK you would like to include in your essay.

Analyzing the NEWS

Being able to look at news and get different information from it is a very important skill to have, as it will help you identify bias, stereotypes, the type of source, etc. This information then can effectively be used in your essays. 

For homework finish the NEWS ARTICLE ANALYSIS that you started in class. 

Bias in writing

Everyone has their own point of view about different subjects and it is important to recognize that of others and your own in order to use that information in your own writing. 

For homework: 
Read an article about the weather phenomena "El niño". Try to find an article that talks about how it is affecting a certain part of the world. We will discuss it tomorrow.

Analyzing Arguments

Argumentative writing is one of the most common types of writing out there, and can be found in many different formats. In class today, we looked at logos, pathos and ethos and how they are used in different TV commercials and finished up with an article written by Sebastian Junger, "Why would anyone miss war?"

For homework, I'd like you to finish the reading and answer the "Understanding the Reading" and "Analyzing the Reading" questions found in the slides.
